MTV Producer Says Nicki and Miley Were 'Not Playing' About Onstage VMA Beef

MTV Producer Says Nicki and Miley Were 'Not Playing' About Onstage VMA Beef

Feud or fiction?

An MTV exec has weighed in on Miley Cyrus andNicki Minaj's onstage beef at the VMAs and insists it wasn't staged.

Van Toffler, who served as executive producer of the MTV awards Sunday, told Billboard the pop stars were "not playing," adding: "We had no idea what either of them was going to say, and we didn't anticipate that. Clearly, from Miley's reaction, it was genuine."

The Internet went crazy when Minaj threw some shade at Cyrus after accepting her best hip-hop video Moonman, calling the "Wrecking Ball" singer "this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press ... Miley, what's good?" (In a walkup interview to the VMAs with the New York Times, which Cyrus hosted, she commented on Minaj and Taylor Swift's Twitter feud and called the rapper "not too kind.")

Neither Minaj nor Cyrus has directly addressed the controversy, which some believe was staged for buzz. However, Minaj did take to Twitter, posting "Lmfaooooooooooooo" shortly after the onstage barbs, then retweeting an Atlantic article about the drama the next day.
